Windows XP PPTP VPN Setup

1.) Click on the ‘Start’ button and choose ‘Control Panel’. Once inside the Control Panel, click on the ‘Network Connections’

2.) Choose ‘Create a new connection’ found at the upper left-hand corner of the categories  and a‘New Connection Wizard’ will appear.

3.) Click ‘Next’ to continue and choose ‘Connect to a new network at my workplace’ and then click the ‘Next’ button again.

4.) Choose the second option ‘Virtual Private Network Connection’ and then Click ‘Next’.

5.) Enter any connection name, such as‘’, in ‘Company Name’ box and then click ‘Next’.

7 –  Select ‘Do not dial the initial connection’ and then click ‘Next’.

8.) For the IP address, put ‘CheapestVPN host IP‘, enter the IP address and then Click ‘Next’.

9 –  Select ‘Add a shortcut to this connection to my desktop’ to enable quick access to vpn. Click ‘Next’.

10.) Find the newly configured connection window otherwise double-click the connection from the ‘Network Connections’ pane Open the new VPN connection that you have created. Click ‘Properties’.

11.) Double check the VPN server hostname then go to ‘Security’ tab.

12.) On ‘Security’ tab, choose ‘Advanced (custom settings)’ then click the ‘settings’ button on the right.

13.) Confirm that the top drop-down box is set to ‘Require Encryption (disconnect if server declines)’, that the radio button next to ‘Allow these protocols’ is selected, and finally that the check boxes for ‘Challenge Handshake Authentication Protocol (CHAP)’ and ‘Microsoft CHAP Version 2 (MS-CHAP v2)’ are selected. Click the ‘OK’ button, and move on to the next step.

14.) Click ‘Yes’ to continue.

15.) Go to ‘Networking’ tab and hover the mouse to the drop-down menu (type of vpn) and choose Point to Point Tunneling Protocol (PPTP)’ option or PPTP VPN.   Untick the ‘File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks’ and ‘Client for Microsoft Networks’ options and click ‘OK’.

16.) CheapestVPN PPTP Setup Procedure is done – make sure to enter your username and password when the login dialog pops up  and hit ‘Enter’.
